DC Prep expects the best from teachers and helps them to achieve it. Our work with the Teacher Advancement Program has helped to ensure that professional development is an integrated and integral part of the DC Prep experience, and occurs in many forms. Teachers meet weekly to assess student academic progress, discuss specific teaching strategies to help students master challenging content, and address individual student concerns.
Teachers receive two formal observations during the school year. The TAP rubric – a research-based tool that has been extensively field-tested forms the basis for these observations — is used in grades K-8. Early childhood teachers are observed and evaluated using the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS). Informal weekly observations from multiple vantage points ensure a continuous cycle of conversation, reflection, and improved instructional ability and have made DC Prep a rich and vibrant learning environment.
DC Prep's staff development program also allows teachers to pursue a variety of positions, including grade level lead, department chair, instructional coach, and Mentor and Master teacher. These positions allow teachers to grow as leaders and develop the skills and experiences that will prepare them to serve as Principals or other key administrators.
