DC Prep's Edgewood Middle Campus is Two-Time EPIC Award Winner

March 08 2012 | School News

DC Prep’s Edgewood Middle Campus (EMC) was selected as a 2012 EPIC Silver Gain Award Winner from New Leaders – the only school in Washington, DC to be honored. EMC was one of only 14 charter schools nationwide (selected from a field of 179) for its accomplishments in driving some of the highest student achievement gains in the country. The Silver Gain Award recognizes the school's demonstrated results for students and growth in DC-CAS scores from spring 2010 to spring 2011. EMC was selected in the fifth and final cohort of schools receiving awards in EPIC’s National Charter School Consortium and was given a special shout-out for being a two-time award recipient. According to New Leaders data, over the past five years, 384 schools participated in the consortium and just 97 EPIC school awards have been granted.

New Leaders’ EPIC program (Effective Practice Incentive Community) is designed to identify and share best practices across a consortium of high-performing charter schools nationally, providing a unique opportunity for top-quality educators to learn from their peers. Conceived in 2006 by New Leaders, EPIC is funded primarily by the U.S. Department of Education's Teacher incentive Fund Program. For more information, visit www.newleaders.org.

What our Teachers are Saying

“It was truly inspirational to be part of that first year team and to work together to develop the culture of the school. I think that is why I feel so connected to DC Prep; as it has developed and evolved, so have I.”
Kathryn Fabian, Early Childhood Assistant Principal
