Safety for Our Students, Staff, and Families

At DC Prep, the physical safety of our community is of utmost importance. Our approach to security begins with building trust and strong relationships among students and families, so they are comfortable and safe with our team. We provide physical safety while on campus by completing monthly drills to ensure we are in compliance and students understand what to do in case of emergency.

We regularly assess our dismissal process to ensure we provide students a safe departure home.  We also collaborate with the community and DC officials to always stay in the know of what is happening in the space where we educate students.

Key elements of our approach include:

Campus Security

We have security to assist with opening and closing the buildings. Visitors must show ID upon arrival, and only individuals listed in our student information system are authorized to pick up a child.

A Safe Place to Learn

We have a team dedicated to maintaining the physical infrastructure of our buildings, creating an environment where our social-emotional learning foundation allows students to feel safe, supported, and free to express themselves.

Student Health

Our team communicates consistently with families about vaccination updates and notifies parents when illnesses occur within a classroom.

Partnerships

  • We partner with DDOT to help ensure safe road crossings, and our staff welcomes families upon arrival to campus.
  • Metropolitan Police assist with dismissal to help ensure students safely begin their walk home.
  • We also partner with the MPD Watch Commander to receive alerts when concerning activity occurs in the surrounding area.

Family Partnership

We partner closely with families and keep them informed and involved so we can support each student together.

“What I love most about DC Prep is knowing my children are cared for. The teachers always communicate and make sure I’m informed. As a parent, it gives me confidence knowing my children are surrounded by people who genuinely care about them.”
