Mary Pendleton joined DC Prep in 2016. Prior to becoming the Senior Director of Program, she served as the Director of Humanities, overseeing the DC Prep Literacy and Social Studies programs, after spending her first few years as the ELA Curriculum Writer. Before joining the DC Prep community, Mary began her career in education through Teach for America. She taught middle school reading and writing in New Orleans at Phillis Wheatley Community School, a charter school within the FirstLine Schools network. Following her time in the classroom, she spent several years as the assistant principal with a focus on literacy and teacher coaching. Mary holds a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Georgia and a master’s degree in education policy and leadership from American University.
